Do I need specific training to become a CERT member?
No, you do not need any prior experience. We will provide training through a basic CERT course.
How much time will I have to dedicate to this?
As little or as much as you would like to provide. Some members show up occasionally for trainings, others help out with admin. type of work. There are not set duty nights; it’s just when you are available. The CERT Basic Course is one of the most time consuming as that will require several in-person classes.
What kind of positions will I be responsible for?
CERT Teams have varying needs; some logistical, some administrative. Other members help with that and train for disaster response.
Do I need to be physically fit?
Short answer, no. We want everyone to be safe and comfortable and will not ask you to do anything beyond your physical capabilities. However, those wanting to participate in some of the more physically demanding activities should be physically cleared by a doctor to be able to participate.
What should I wear to in-person team trainings/deployments?
Your instructor will let you know but most likely something comfortable and appropriate for the forecasted weather and surroundings/terrain.
Can kid’s go to trainings/deployments?
No. Members must be 18+ for safety and liability reasons.
